Training & Experience: I graduated with my Masters in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology in 2009. I served as adjunct faculty at Talbot and worked for the Center for Spiritual Renewal giving spiritual direction to the Biola community. I also facilitated peer supervision for the CSR. Since moving to the Bay Area, I have given direction in partnership with Via Vitera and collaborated with local churches to offer group and individual spiritual direction.
Denominational Affiliation: Grab a cup of coffee, it’s a long story. Being from Minnesota, I was initially raised Lutheran (I have a strong affection for the green LBW!) and then we switched to Ev Free. In college I attended a couple of different Baptist churches. Back to Ev Free after college. While attending grad school, I went to Mosaic (an emergent church) and then back again to Ev Free. Since moving to the Bay area, I’ve been worshiping with the Presbyterians and occasionally a big non-denominational church. I am enjoying discovering the wider stream of Christianity and the richness of spiritual practices therein.
Specialties: Given my background and education, I am especially attuned to the needs and challenges of those in the Evangelical tradition. As I reflect back on the work I’ve had the opportunity to do with folks, themes for directees emerge: wanting to know if their spiritual experience or lack thereof is normal (or is this all there is to the Christian life?), wanting to open to a deeper receiving of grace and love or realizing they have some part of their life that needs to be grieved and let go of in order to move forward in freedom. I am experienced working with women and men. I also do a lot of group spiritual direction and mini retreats for small groups.
Style of Direction: I consider it a privilege to sit with another, listening to their story and discerning together what God may be inviting them to next. I also enjoy helping people find prayer practices that fit their lives now. Directees I have worked with in the past often describe my presence as gentle, gracious and wise.
Personal information: My husband and I were married in 2006 and welcomed our son in 2011. I love drinking coffee, practicing yoga, zumba, coloring, reading, enjoying nature, wine “tasting” and watching my son grow into a open, trusting and loving human.
