Unbound Beauty
by Kent Smith
“Robin boldly caroling from our treetop ‘cheer-up, cheerily, cheer-up, cheerily.’ My heartbeat rises and my spirit lifts effortlessly. There is a natural and symbiotic connection between bird song and my body. What’s happening to me? Before my mind can grasp it my body is on its feet celebrating. Beauty will have its way. Yet the world is on fire. The pandemic is surging again, white supremacy is bruised but unbowed. The simultaneity of viral disease and human disease is inexplicable and inescapable. The fate of the struggle between freedom and resistance lives in the container of unbound beauty and beauty will have its day.” |
