Training and Experience: I successfully completed the three year Spiritual Directiors Institute, in 2001 at the Mercy Center. I have been practicing retreat and individual direction for 20 years. I’ve served in Pastoral ministry in Independent Bible, Baptist, Congregational, Non-denominational, Evangelical Free, congregations for the past 52 years. I‘ve served as Adjunct Staff –men’s spirituality program Mercy Center for 4 years. I completed Mercy Center's retreat training in leading the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, which heavily influences my spiritual direction practice. Denominational Affiliation: Inter-Denominational Specialties: My wife Charlotte, and I co-direct the contemplative ministry called Beyond These Shores (https://www.beyondtheseshores.org/) providing Christian Contemplative practices and support for growing in “wholeness and holiness”, and interior freedom. We specialize in Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, contemplative retreats, and Celtic Christian Pilgrimages for pastors, lay-leaders and seekers. We design and lead retreats for churches – leadership, young adult, youth, all-church, as well as retreats for men's groups and women's groups. Style of direction: I use the contemplative model of direction, assisting the directee in listening for the movements of the Spirit and discern the movements of their own hearts. My direction methods are influenced by Ignatian spiritual practices as well. Personal Information: I am married to Charlotte. We have two adult daughters with 4 grandchildren, who live in the Portland, OR and SoCal areas. I love sports, exploring, outdoors, exotic cars, movies, antiquing and good food. I am actively engaged in my own formation and see my own spiritual director and therapist monthly, as well as participating in workshops, pilgrimages, and attend retreats to support my spiritual work toward greater wholeness and freedom. |
