Compassion-Centered Spiritual Direction: Internal Family Systems as a Model for Spiritual Companions

5/1/2021

Community Learning Opportunity for CCSV Spiritual Directors
Saturday, May 22nd
9:00 - 11:30am

Picture
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a contemplative, soulful, and non-pathologizing approach to personal healing and spiritual transformation. This workshop explores how IFS offers a model and process for compassion-centered spiritual direction that deepens connection with the sacred, with others, and with our own spiritual essence.

A contemporary spiritual path, it deepens our connection to a sacred Source of loving energy; it tends, with care, the cacophony of emotions, impulses, and interior self-chatter that so often swirl within us; and it restores us to our true Self, that reservoir of personal power, expansiveness, and compassion that dwells within every human being.

This is a virtual event for CCSV Spiritual Directors who are Members of the Center, also, Friends of the Center who are spiritual directors or on the training path. Registration not required.

Frank Rogers is a spiritual director, supervisor, IFS practitioner, retreat leader, writer, and professor of spiritual formation at the ecumenical and inter-faith Claremont School of Theology. He has taught and written in spirituality, contemplative practice, and compassionate social engagement for over 30 years, and is the author of Practicing Compassion and Compassion in Practice: The Way of Jesus. As the Co-Director for the Center for Engaged Compassion, he offers and teaches compassion-based approaches to spiritual direction and supervision.

9AM to Noon

Wilderness or Wonderment? Using the Labyrinth to Refresh the Spirit and Nourish the Soul

Walking the labyrinth, or using a hand-held one, can help us quiet our minds so we can listen to our hearts. It helps us find our natural pace and allows us to enter the “in-between” world where insights flow, intentions are renewed, and a bigger picture of one’s life is nurtured.

The virtual labyrinth experience will offer reflection, a hand-held labyrinth meditation, storytelling and a time to be together in community. Bring a hand-held labyrinth or click here to print one from CCSV's website. The online app Labyrinth Journeys is also excellent.

ABOUT LAUREN ARTRESS
The Reverend Dr. Lauren Artress is Canon Emeritus of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and the author of Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Practice, and The Sacred Path Companion: A Guide to Walking the Labyrinth to Heal and Transform (Putnam/Riverhead Books, New York). Her latest book The Path of the Holy Fool: How the Labyrinth Ignites Visionary Powers is inspired by her thirty years of work with the Labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral. Visit Dr. Artress and Veriditas to find out more about her lifelong work in healing and spiritual transformation.
